Hello Riflemen-I have been starting some of my fishing trips early before sunrise. I do this when I want to be at a certain fishing spot at first light. Thought you might like to see the river as we see it then-
Looking east and drifting west. for the first 45 minutes of daylight or so there is too much glare on the water to see any rocks at any depth-

Drifting west away from a bridge some of you may be familiar with-

I'm not sure where this is and bet I was really trying to figure it out when I took this photo-

Image

This water is completely reflective at this point of the morning-

He should have been fishing 12 minutes ago-

Hey BL. What's with the dead reckoning. Pretty hard to get lost on a river. You can usually see land, and you can generally tell if you're going upstream or down. Now the ocean, that's a different story.

Hello Riflemen-Dead Reckoning, if I can figger out whether it's evening or morning I can use the sun for finding east icon_thumright.gif then if I know that with a few complicated computations I can determine if I'm going downstream or upstream. It's called navigation and is offered as a home schooling class by several different sources icon_thumright.gif but it does require some serious maff background and a goodly amount of serious study. Most folks just leave this up to the guide (me). More times than not I will navigate from the "put in" to the "take out" without much problem. Life is good, Bestlever

looks like summer, I reckon....short sleeved shirts!

sunrise or sunset? depends...stomach growls it's sunset, I reckon!
 no ice in the river...reckon it's definitely summer!

if the boat stops in the water, I reckon the water is low, or BL is asleep midship. if'n ya tallk and git no answer, I reckon it's the later!

Dead reckomning surely works!!
