The recoil expressed in footpounds may be similar for the 270 and the 20 guage. However, the fit of the stock may be a lit different. Also, if she is wingshooting the 20 guage, that's a whole lot different mentally than bearing down on a stationary target, and squeezing the trigger.

Corbi's offer to handload you some ammo is a safer way of getting her familiar with a new to her firearm. If her initial experience is less than pleasant, that can be VERY hard to unlearn. If you are determined to start her out using full powered loads (even if they are lighter weight bullets) watch her carefully. If she seems the least bit uncomfortable shooting, stop her right away and switch her over to shooting something she is proven to be VERY comfortable in shooting. You want her last impression of range shooting to be fun, pleasant, and not something that's uncomfortable. Otherwise, when you take her out next time, she'll be thinking about her last experience--an unpleasant one. Your second range session will be an uphill one, and that's not necessary.

So, plan to take more than one rifle out for her first session with the 270, and be prepared to make her 270 session a short one. If you rush things, you may have a lot of "unlearning" to do in order to keep her interested in hunting with her Dad. That would be a shame.

She did pretty good with the 270, shot 40 rounds. I'm going to put one of those breaks on it though - another $200.00!

I bought a rifle for all my nephews to use as they grew...a Remington Mod 7 in 260 Remington...most accurate, versatile and pleasant gun I've ever shot....85 grains for big varmints..120 or 140 for deer and even small elk....a better all around caliber than the 7mm-08
