I just purcased a mould from a fella on another forum. Described as an older mould still in the original Box. Its a Lyman 358429. Should arrive shortly.

Will this slug work in Mag brass through a Ruger Security Six? Smith 686? Or will I be stuck loading them in Special Brass?

I am looking to start casting for my 45 ACP's . I've never feed them much of anything other than 230 ball loads. I am half scared of the semi-wadcutters for fear they might not properly feed, but have no experience with them. What mould shoots well in your 45 ACPs?

Just finished up melting down about 3/4 ton of wheel weights.... should last me a fair bit.

that bullet should work in rugers but not sure on the smith & wessons.the 358429 is a excellent bullet & very accurate.
BL might help out I sent him a batch that he loaded up in 38 special brass and he liked them in his revolver.

fwiw if you have to seat those bullets a little deeper in 357 mag brass to work in your revolver back off on your starting loads as pressures will go up.

redhawk with the 358429

I load the 358429 in my Mod 19 and 586 (blued version of the 686) The OAL is fine, only in the "N" frames do I have to go with the 38 brass.

A very fine load with this bullet is 11.5grs 2400 with a standard SP primer. This is a great bullet.

Try sizing around .359 to .360, that is what gave me my best accuracy using Lyman # 2 alloy.

At castboolits there is a group buy for a NOE 358429 mould. You can get 2 to 5 cavity solidmold or a 2 or 4 cavity hollowpoint/solid mold

I have the 5 cavity mold and good bullets fall like rain!

Do not miss out!

I use the 429 in my 686 and my buddy uses it in his Security Six. I built my mold and it is based off of the original Keith 358429. OAL is 0.750, nose length is 0.360, meplat is 0.250, and weight is 170 grains. What differntiates the original to the newer Lyman, and some copies is the front band and lube grooves. Lyman saw fit to change Elmer's design so the top driving band, above the crimp groove, was sub caliber. This was due to complaints about chambering in some 357's. As the boolit was designed for the 38/44 S&W frame size and cylinder length, newer guns were showing up with shorter cylinders. Since the full caliber top band sat in the throats, improper sizing or fouling buildup would make chambering hard.Lyman also went from the original flat bottomed lube groove to a shallow, radiused one. A big mistake IMO. I have heard that they are switching back to the flat bottom groove. You'll just have to try your mold and see what the boolits look like. Everytime Lyman cut a new cherry, they made them a little different. Almost like they went from passed down memories rather than a print.

I have to pay close attention to my brass length in my 686. I usually trim about 0.005" below min. trim length and seat to the very top edge of the crimp groove. The Security Six has just a tad shorter cylinder so you may have to trim just a bit more. It's a great boolit and shoots very well over 2400 with small pistol standard primers and also WW296 with mag primers
